How do I price soccer card parallels?

Direct answer

Price the exact card and the exact parallel, never just the player or the base card. A Refractor, a colour parallel or a numbered /25 can be worth many times the base card, and two parallels of one card are different products. A good starting point is the middle asking price of active eBay listings for exactly that card and parallel, together with how many listings there are. For rare parallels with few or no listings, set the price yourself.

Why the parallel decides the price

Modern football (soccer) products such as Topps Chrome, Finest or Panini Prizm print the same card in many parallels: different colours, patterns and print runs. The lower the print run, the scarcer the card, and the price follows. A listing that names the wrong parallel either leaves money on the table or disappoints the buyer.

Pin down the parallel first

  • The print run. A numbered card shows it on the card, for example /250. It narrows the parallels a lot.
  • The pattern within one run. Some runs share a number but differ in pattern, for example Pink Refractor and Pink Wave Refractor. Compare the finish on your card, not just the colour on a screen.
  • The serial number of your copy. For example 12 of /250. Name it in the listing; some buyers pay more for special numbers, which is your call.
  • Rookie card (RC). Rookie cards are a separate search for many buyers, so say so in the title when the card is one.

Asking prices are not sold prices

Active listings show what sellers ask, not what buyers paid. Use the middle of them as a pointer, and look at how many listings there are: one listing is one seller's opinion, ten listings are a market. For a rare parallel with no listing at all, look at nearby print runs of the same card and decide yourself.

How NeoSatoshi prices football cards

  • The price is the middle asking price of active eBay listings for exactly this card and parallel, with the number of listings next to it.
  • It is read on one eBay site (eBay.de when it is active, otherwise your first active eBay site) and converted for the other sites and currencies.
  • Changing the card or the parallel loads the price again; the old price is never used for an export.
  • A card without a price must get a typed price. It is never listed at a minimum price, and the football price goes into your listings as it is, without price rules.
  • There are no Cardmarket or TCGplayer prices for football cards, and the daily price sync does not update football listings yet.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my card have no price?

Because there are few or no active eBay listings for exactly that card and parallel, which is normal for rare parallels. Type the price yourself.

Can I add a markup to the eBay price?

Not with price rules: for football cards the eBay price is used as it is. Change the price of a row by hand where you want a different one.
