How do I list and price Lorcana foil cards correctly?
Direct answer
Treat a foil and a non-foil copy of the same Lorcana card as two separate items: separate listings or variants, separate prices, and the finish named clearly in the title and the item details. Price each copy from the market price of its own finish, because the foil price is usually higher and the gap differs from card to card. Some printings, such as Enchanted, Epic and Iconic cards, only exist as foil, so they never need a non-foil price.
Why foil and non-foil are separate items
Most Lorcana cards exist as a regular (non-foil) copy and as a foil copy. For buyers these are different products: collectors look for one finish on purpose, and the market prices the two separately. Cardmarket keeps separate foil prices for each card, and eBay buyers search and filter by finish. Mixing them up means you either undersell your foils or disappoint a buyer who expected a foil.
Why the price differs
Foil copies turn up less often in packs than the non-foil version of the same card, and many collectors prefer them, so they usually trade higher. How much higher depends on the card. For some cards the foil costs only a little more, for popular characters the gap can be large. Never derive a foil price from the non-foil price with a fixed factor. Look up the foil price of that exact card.
Printings with a fixed finish
Some printings only exist in one finish. Enchanted, Epic and Iconic cards and most promos exist only as foil, and some printings exist only as non-foil. For these there is nothing to choose: list them in their one finish at its price. NeoSatoshi locks the Foil column for these printings, so a wrong finish cannot slip through.
How to list foil copies on each channel
Cardmarket
On Cardmarket, foil is a property of your offer on the card's product page. Set it correctly, because buyers filter offers by it. In a TCGPowerTools import file the finish is its own column (isFoil). The TCGPowerTools import file answer explains the rest of the file.
eBay
Put "Foil" in the title right after the card name and set the Finish item specific to Foil. If you use listings where buyers pick the card from a dropdown, keep foil copies in their own listing so price and photo always match the finish.
Shopify
Make the foil copy its own variant with its own price and stock, so a buyer who picks the foil pays the foil price.
How NeoSatoshi handles foil
- The review table has a Foil column (Yes or No) right after the name. It is also available in Bulk Edit, for many rows at once.
- Changing the Foil column switches the Cardmarket prices and the listing price to that finish. Choose the finish first and set your own price after that.
- Foil-only printings (Enchanted, Epic, Iconic, most promos) are fixed to foil, non-foil-only printings to non-foil.
- If the foil was recognised on the photo, hovering the cell shows "Detected as foil from the photo". You can still change it, and you should check it.
- eBay: a foil copy is always listed separately from the non-foil one. "Foil" is added after the card name in the title, the Finish item specific is Foil, and with "One listing per set, cards to choose" foil copies get their own grouped listing. In your own eBay templates, text between [[if:foil]] and [[/if]] only appears on foil copies.
- Shopify: the foil copy is its own "Foil" variant.
- TCGPowerTools CSV for Cardmarket: the file gets an isFoil column.
- If a card has no foil market price, NeoSatoshi does not borrow the non-foil price. The row stays without a market price until you type one.
What NeoSatoshi does not do
- It does not judge condition. Look at the surface of every foil copy in good light and set the condition per copy.
- It does not price a foil copy from the non-foil price. The daily price sync reprices Lorcana foil copies on eBay and Shopify from the foil price of your price source only. Without one, the copy keeps the price you set.
- It does not support Lorcana in Japanese, Chinese or other languages beyond English, German, French and Italian.
Checklist before you list foil cards
- Foil column checked for every row, especially for cards that exist in both finishes.
- Price set after the finish, from the foil price of that exact card.
- Rows without a foil market price priced by hand. If you use a minimum price, make sure a valuable foil is not left at the minimum.
- Condition set per copy after looking at the surface.
- "Foil" visible in the eBay title and the Finish item specific set (both automatic with NeoSatoshi).
- Foil and non-foil copies of the same card in separate listings or variants.
- Foil copies without a foil market price reviewed from time to time, because the daily price sync leaves them at the price you set.
Frequently asked questions
Can I list a foil and a non-foil copy in one listing?
You should not. They are different items with different prices. Use separate listings, or separate variants on Shopify. NeoSatoshi always keeps them apart.
Are Enchanted cards always foil?
Yes. Enchanted cards only exist as foil, as do Epic and Iconic cards and most promos. NeoSatoshi fixes these printings to foil, so the foil price is used automatically.
How do I switch many cards to foil at once?
Check the rows in the review table, click Bulk Edit, choose Foil and the new value. The prices of every changed row switch to the foil price, except for printings that are locked to one finish.
Does the daily price sync update my foil prices?
Yes, on eBay and Shopify. The daily price sync reprices Lorcana foil copies from the foil price of your price source, never from the non-foil price. If that source has no foil price for the card, the foil copy keeps the price you set.
What if NeoSatoshi shows no foil price for a card?
Then there is no current foil market price for that card. NeoSatoshi does not fill in the non-foil price. Type your own price for that copy, for example after checking recent sales and current offers on the marketplace.
