Frequently Asked Questions
- Can all cards be recognized?
- In principle, all German and English cards that have appeared in regular editions can be recognized. This includes about 18,000 different Pokémon cards, and several hundred new cards are added every year.
However, it may be that price information is not available for all Pokémon cards, for example because some cards are traded very rarely.
Currently, the recognition of German cards is somewhat weaker than that of English cards. In addition, trainer cards and stadium cards are recognized somewhat worse than normal Pokémon.
Incidentally, all parallel set cards and first editions can also be recognized. However, the recognition rate is not yet as high here, and prices are mostly available for parallel set cards as well.
We are continuously working on improvements and rely on your help. Feel free to send us your feedback, suggestions for improvement, or a collection of errors or misrecognitions to feedback@neosatoshi.com.
- How many cards can be in one photo?
- That depends on how good your camera is ;)
If you take a photo with a current smartphone, the best results are usually achieved with 1-12 Pokémon cards in one photo.
It is important that the photo is not blurred, has no shadows, light reflections, or poorly lit areas.
The number of correctly recognized cards tends to decrease if more than 12 Pokémon cards are photographed. However, up to 30 cards have also been correctly recognized with one photo.
It is also important that the Pokémon cards are all turned in the same direction and do not overlap as much as possible.
- How good is the recognition?
- It depends very much on how well the photos were taken and which Pokémon cards were photographed.
Some cards are significantly more difficult to recognize than others, for example because there are many different versions or the appearance or texts of the cards are extremely similar or even identical to other cards. Especially with special editions that have the exact same appearance or text, recognition can fail.
Overall, tests with high-quality photos have shown a recognition rate of about 95% for English cards and slightly lower for German cards. Trainer cards and stadium cards are currently recognized somewhat worse than Pokémon cards.
We are continuously working on improving recognition and look forward to your feedback via email at feedback@neosatoshi.com.
- What should I pay attention to when taking photos of my cards?
- You should pay attention to the following points when taking photos:
- Good lighting conditions
- No card overlaps
- 1-12 cards per photo are optimal (maximum 20 cards)
- High sharpness and no blurred areas
- No light reflections
- No twisted cards (a slight rotation is okay, about 20 degrees maximum compared to other cards)
It is okay to leave the cards in your folder, in sleeves, or top loaders as long as they do not cause strong reflections.
Partially blurred, poorly lit, or twisted cards can also be recognized, but the likelihood of correct results decreases.
- Is recognizing my Pokémon cards free?
- Yes, every day everyone gets 20 Pokémon card recognitions for free.
If you want to scan more cards, you can simply create an account (Google login is also possible) and get another 1,000 card recognitions for free every month. The limit was introduced because each recognition incurs costs for us.
If you need more than 1,000 card recognitions per month, just send us an email with a few sentences to token@neosatoshi.com, and we will add more 'tokens' for recognition to your account. There is currently no paid service.
- What are the benefits of photographing and recognizing my cards?
- We have summarized some use cases for card recognition a bit further up on the page. In our opinion, the biggest benefit is the time saved.
-> Normally, you have to painstakingly search for your cards on Cardmarket or other platforms and then research individually how much they are worth. Especially if you want to trade, you check the approximate value of your cards beforehand. Normally, it takes about 30 seconds to 1 minute per card. With online recognition, you can get the market value of 10-20 cards in 5-20 seconds and don't even need a calculator ;)
-> You can also discover hidden treasures that you didn't know were worth anything (especially reverse set cards).
-> For less experienced collectors, it is also helpful to quickly assign a card to an edition if you do not know the edition logos by heart (there are now over 150 sets!).
If you have found other interesting use cases, please share them with us via email at feedback@neosatoshi.com.
- What information do I get when I have my cards recognized?
- Just try it out using the upload button at the top of this page ;)
- How often are prices updated?
- Prices are updated daily around noon.
- How are prices calculated?
- The price from Cardmarket is the average of all transactions conducted over the last 30 days on Cardmarket. This means that the average price includes different conditions and languages of the cards. There are also cards that are rarely traded, for which the price may not be current.
Unfortunately, there are no prices for First Edition cards for Base Set cards, so no prices are displayed here.
The prices from TCGPlayer are market prices. TCGPlayer describes it as follows:
The TCG market price shows you the current 'true value' of each item available on TCGplayer.com. We take the prices at which a collectible has sold, average multiple recent transactions, and use this information to show you the most reliable market value of this product.
The price information should be a first indication; you should still perform a detailed check directly on the trading platforms before selling a card.
